the prodigy - this band is amazing. what else can i say? there are
four members, and they are based out of england, but the weird part is three of them
aren't even real members. the only real member is liam howlett, who plays all the music
and handles all producing and mixing. the other three, whos names are maxim reality, keith
flint, and leeroy are just there for the kicks. maxim is the mc, and he does all the mc
sorta stuff at the live shows, he also does half of the vocals. keith flint started out
being just a dancer, but has now worked his way into being a vocalist covering half of the
vocal work on the more recent prodigy material. leeroy started out as and probably always
will be a dancer. don't get me wrong, he is a really amazing one, but dancing is all he
does as far as i know, and he has no musical talent. the prodigy have just recently
aquired a live drummer called pepper, who i have a very high respect for because he can
handle all the stuff liam has programmed in on the keyboard on a real drumset. they have
also hired a live guitarist called gizz butt who is very cool and has blue hair :) overall
this band is very amazing and if you haven't heard them before you can visit their offical
site here and check them out. i'll keep you posted
on any major prodigy news.
nine
inch nails - yet another one man band. this band is headed up by trent reznor, who
in my opinion is another one of very few musical geniuses. the style of this music is
industrial, and is quite different than anything the prodigy have ever done. they are both
talented in very different ways. although i must admit, trent reznor has definitely
accomplished a lot more. he has produced several compilations, movie soundtracks, and he
owns his own record company, not to mention he found marilyn manson and brought them to
the top. nin has had three major releases, pretty hate machine, broken, and the downward
spiral. even though broken is just an ep it sold probably just as many copies as the
previous album. i find that i like all of nin's material, and there isn't very many songs
that i don't really like a lot. trent reznor has a live band that he tours with, just so
the show doesn't get boring, although he writes, plays, and sings all the music himself in
the studio. if you want to check out nine inch nails for yourself go here and see what you think.
the
crystal method - although i haven't listened to this band for very long, they have
got to me very fast and are definitely one of my main influences. the song you have
probably heard(if any), is called busy child, and it's played all over north america.
although it's not their best song, it is pretty kewl and i like it. the album(vegas), is
really amazing and features much better songs than busy child, although it is on there.
the crystal method consists of two people, but i don't know as much about them as i do
about some of the other bands i have listened to for quite a while. all i know is that
they are very talented, and have a unique sound that is very addictive, and definitely
some great hardcore elektronika. if you would like to see the crystal method's official
site go here, and see for yourself how
amazing they are.
fatboy
slim - i gotta admit. i sure have a thing for these one man bands. this is yet
another band with a very unique sound. the first cd they put out was very bland with not
much in the way of variety. there is only a couple good songs on that cd. then they came
out with the new one. it is really amazing. it's called "you've come a long way
baby" and i think the title is very appropriate. you can probably find it at your
local cd store, and if you do i suggest you pick it up straight away. it is very well put
together, and is definitely one of my influences for making music from loops. although he
has a different approach in the way he uses a lot of samples, it still sounds very kewl,
and i like it a lot. fatboy slim is featured on many compilations and if you are into
elektronik music, you have probably encounted fatboy slim somewhere or other. if you
haven't on the other hand, here is
a link to the official site on the record label.
marilyn
manson - sorry, but i couldn't have an influences section without including this
band. at one point this was the only band i listened to, and they were probably the ones
that made me continue making music. although i don't listen to them that much now, i have
to give them credit for making my music life steady and inspiring me to keep pursuing my
ultimate goal. the band is a five piece who started out in florida, and have changed so
many times since they started out that i just can't count anymore. the band leader who
bears the name of the band, is a very bright, but very freaky guy. most people will tell
you that this band is sick and does inhuman things at their concerts. which i believed at
first...but i later found out that it was all a bunch of rumours and they really aren't
sick at all. they are just another band with an amazing amount of talent out to make a
point. even if those rumours are true, the fact is, they still have an incredible amount
of talent. i think i have done the most research on this band than i have ever done on
anything else in my life. although i don't listen to them much now...i used to be obsessed
with them and driven to learn absolutely every fact i possibly could about them. if you
don't believe me, go here and listen to the
audio samples. these guys have catchy t00ns that stick in your head and are just packed
with talent.
